Amy Schmidt has roots in southern Appalachia and branches in Costa Rica. She traveled far and wide, following her curiosity, seeking beauty and information around the world. While on a non-traditional path, she managed to take a few traditional steps, like a BA in English/Professional Writing from WCU and an MA in Peace and Conflict Resolution from the University for Peace.
Before relocating to Costa Rica, Amy was the executive director of a nonprofit migrant healthcare program and from this work, she developed a deepened understanding of migration, agriculture, colonization, and structural oppression in general.
Aside from her professional work as an editor and writer,
she also teaches leadership and empowerment self-defense for women and teens, and yoga and mindfulness.
Her lens is feminist and her feminism is intersectional. Her goal is a connection through empathy and her passion is working to end gender-based violence. She likes her humor dry and her fruit juicy.
“Amy was such a pleasure to work with on my magazine article. She took my basic and boring outline and turned it into a beautiful, emotional story that captures attention and elevates the overall message I was trying to convey. I also appreciated how reasonable her rates are and her quick responses. Can’t wait to work together again!”
“Working with Amy was an incredibly powerful experience. She took my thoughts and story and turned them into a work of art. Amy saw my vision and spoke my language. I couldn’t have dreamed of a more aligned partner for this project. I know my path with her is just beginning.”
